Ingazi – Elevating Youth, One Course At A Time

ngazi (Passport to Earning Rwanda) is a joint Ministry of Youth and Arts, Rwanda Development Board & UNICEF Rwanda project. It is a digital platform that offers free courses that mirror the demands of the modern job market. It is designed to empower Rwandan youth with the tools to ease into the intimidating gap between school and work. It lays the groundwork for personal growth and provides linkages to job opportunities in all sectors.

In an ever-changing world where industries are shaped by innovation and technology, the need to empower youth with the right skills has never been more critical. Forget rigid and traditional learning, young people need 21st century skills to navigate the current job market. What do words like adaptability, creativity, digital literacy, communication, and emotional intelligence have in common? These are some of the 21st century skills that employers are seeking. Why are they important? They create problem-solvers and critical thinkers that thrive in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

Young people aged 16-30, represent 27% of the Rwandan population. The future state of Rwanda’s economy is dependent on these young people’s readiness for the workforce. So, what is the most important step to take? It is crucial to part ways with old-fashioned mentalities and embrace a new age of learning that pushes for a proactive approach to skills development. An approach that simplifies the transition from education to employment.

Contributing to this mission is Ingazi (Passport to Earning Rwanda). This is a joint project with The Ministry of Youth and Arts, UNICEF Rwanda and Rwanda Development Board. Ingazi, named after the Kinyarwanda word for ladder or stairs, bridges the skills and opportunities gap for Rwandan youth by providing them with free access to interactive and applicable learning material. Beyond being a training ground, Ingazi will also provide linkages to career opportunities existing in government, private sector, and civil society, such as jobs, training, mentorship, and internships. In simple words, it is a one-stop shop.
